The Muesum of Phitan is a piece of work incorporates eclecticism, a mixture of elements from previous historical styles to create something that is new and original.
The Museum of Phitan project is conceptually situated within the realms of metafiction and museological display systems. Handmade clay, embroidery, and copper wire artefacts are installed within the tropes of a museum. Serving as purported evidence of a fictional nation, "Phitan." Here the project challenges the traditional notions of reality and fiction, blurring the lines between the two. Playing with the idea of authenticity and the constructed nature of history. As such, this project is self-aware in its authentic inauthenticity. Can one person create a culture rather than multiple people over generations? Can we ever truly know the past with certainty? Can authenticity be constructed or performed, rather than simply discovered?
Phitan is a nation believed to have existed 200 million years ago. Back when the earth had only one continent, known as the Pangea.
